“My recent paintings and monoprints are informed by an inexhaustible supply of images, colors and textures milling about in my head. These elements combine to create shapes and forms that push and pull at each other. Gestures and touch are directed, but surrender to the energy and physical nature of the materials.
Some marks are bold, others light; paint is applied in both thick and thin layers. A strong sense of structure and composition emphasize the contrast between the playful and simple, and the diminutive and powerful elements.
Learning to trust myself with the process of expressive and inventive painting has had a profound impact on my work. No longer needing to consider and analyze my strokes and shapes, I let the art lead itself. I paint fearlessly. With freedom comes coherence. Instead of dreading the empty canvas, I let learned expectations and inhibitions go, and I’m able to paint with exuberance and see where it leads.”
